The Rookie Racers is a program specifically for children to get the most out of their Grand Prix of Portland weekend. Each Rookie Racer member is outfitted with a membership kit and invited to participate in exclusive Rookie Racer experiences throughout the weekend which include a pre-race driver “high-five” line for the NTT IndyCar Series pre-race driver introductions!
How old do you have to be to be a Rookie Racer?
Optimal age for Rookie Racers is 5-12 years old.
What comes in the Rookie Racer membership kits?
Each kit will include a t-shirt, a credential that grants access to all the Rookie Racer experiences, a hat, drawstring bag and tons of goodies from Cooper Tires, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Oregon Department of Transportation, The Oregonian / OregonLive.com,and much more!
What kinds of activities will Rookie Racers get to take part in?
Rookie Racers will get to participate in a scavenger hunt on Friday August 30. Directions will be included when they pick up their Rookie Racer kits at the #PortlandGP event site.
On Saturday August 31, we’ll have a paddock tour/meet & greet with one of the support series racing teams where kids get right up next to the cars and ask their questions to the driver and crew.
On Sunday September 1, during the Official pre-race ceremonies, Rookie Racers will get the chance to “high-five” every single NTT IndyCar Series driver as they head off the stage and towards the pre-race parade lap trucks.
Why should my kid become a Rookie Racer?
The program has been tried-and-tested at our sister tracks, Honda Indy Toronto and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. At both venues, we’ve had to increase the number of memberships each year because Rookie Racers have so much fun that they have invited their friends to also sign up year after year. Plus, you’ll be making memories with your children that will last a lifetime!
